Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A structured, evidence-based approach that helps children and young people understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and develop practical strategies to change unhelpful patterns.
Suits: Anxiety, depression, OCD, health anxiety, phobias, low self-esteem.
Duration: Typically 8 to 16 sessions.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT teaches young people to accept difficult thoughts and feelings rather than fight them, and to commit to actions that align with their values. Particularly effective for chronic anxiety and emotional avoidance.
Suits: Generalised anxiety, depression, school refusal, perfectionism.
Duration: Typically 8 to 12 sessions.
DBT-informed therapy
Drawing on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, this approach builds skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. Used with young people who experience intense emotional swings.
Suits: Emotional dysregulation, self-harm, borderline presentations, trauma.
Duration: Typically 16 to 24 sessions.
Family therapy
Works with the whole family as a system, not just the young person. Helps families develop new patterns of communication and support, and reduces the unintentional reinforcement of difficulties.
Suits: Family conflict, parental anxiety, eating difficulties, relational trauma.
Duration: Typically 6 to 12 sessions.
Parent coaching
One-to-one or couple sessions with parents, focused on building skills to support your child's mental health at home. Grounded in evidence-based parenting models including Triple P and Incredible Years.
Suits: Parents of children with ADHD, anxiety, or challenging behaviour.
Duration: Typically 4 to 8 sessions.
